“KITCHEN” Design talk

30 Jan

Rosario advises on tips and tricks of the trade and where it’s wise to spend when it comes to Kitchen Design in 2013.

What’s trending in the kitchen right now?

Kitchen design is looking very exciting for 2013 as several design philosophies are converging and mixing, resulting in kitchens that are highly personal. With the economy still trudging along without a spring in its step, homeowners want to buy smart for longevity which translates to neutral finishes for big ticket items such as cabinetry, countertops and flooring. Clean modern styles with warm touches continue their popularity. There is still big interest in open floor plans and the social kitchen & built-in can concealed appliances are popular and there is a growing interest in design sustainability and healthy cooking, which factors into the consumer’s purchasing decisions more than they ever have in the past.

What are people looking for when they renovate their kitchens?

People have different reasons for wanting to renovate their kitchens, but that for the most part people are looking for a “FUNCTIONAL” kitchen as the motivating factor. Home cooks are looking for appliances that have convenient features, and cabinet access and storage should also be convenient. The kitchen needs to perform as effortlessly as possible with mutable cooks, entertaining, extended cooking sessions & social cooking. Homeowners seek to express themselves in a personal way in terms of aesthetics and function.

If there’s one thing we should splurge on when we remodel our kitchens what should it be?

Cabinetry has been and will continue to be the one area to splurge on. Cabinetry gets used constantly as do appliances, but since cabinetry is made of wood products as opposed to metals and glass that appliances are made of, it is critical that cabinetry be able to perform consistently over time and resist wear for at least 20 years.  Investing in high end cabinetry is a smart investment as you get what you pay for and skimping on low end cabinetry can be a gamble.

What kitchen appliance is worth the splurge?

The answer is indeed a subjective one. Opt for a major cooking appliance such as an oven and cooktop, or a range, depending on which one best fit the overall kitchen plan. The flexibility of a cooktop’s burners to simmer or power boost, built in timers, auto-cook features, convection in ovens, easy pull out racks and precise temperature control are a cook’s dream. Technology has modernized cooking appliances that we see today. Clever features, such as cooktops with no burners at all are being offered being offered by both Thermador and Gaggenau brands. Imagine being able to place a pot wherever you want on your cooktop!

Are there any popular kitchen cabinet colors trending right now?

We are seeing and working with lots of white, off whites and neutral wood tones.  They continue to be what homeowners want in cabinetry.

Are there any industry secrets you’re willing to share?

Yes, the importance of designing the kitchen area with equal or near equal emphasis on form and function.  This means that form does not have to follow function – function can follow form!

On a final note, find “YOUR” perfect professional, one you can trust with your home, who will listen to you but not ‘yes’ you, guide but not push and you’ll be on the road to a fabulous renovation.

We hope this leaves you well informed and ready to tackle your kitchen renovation!

28 Jan

Many open plan Kitchens are part of a great room, so they often overlook the family TV, but there are ways to incorporate a small screen within a kitchen in a more obvious way.

Trends in how TV’s fit into interior design are changing—and fast. We now integrate them in a broad spectrum of ways: Whether fit futuristically into the front of a cabinet door, or prominently mounted on the wall, screens have migrated into our living spaces, especially in rooms like the kitchen where technology and aesthetics go hand in hand.

Invest in your home!!

17 Jan

Invest in your home…… With the start of another calendar year, why not make a resolution for your home? Investing in an upgrade for where you live will not only result in an increased resale value, but the final product will leave you f…eeling happier and more fulfilled for the long-term. If you make one upgrade on your house this year, let it be your kitchen. After all, it’s the most important—not to mention most popular—room in the home, and it offers the biggest bang for your remodel buck. Need more incentive? Here are a few reasons we think you should consider remodeling your kitchen this year.
Design Trends – Since the “Kitchen Design Triangle” theory a lot has changed in the world of kitchen design. New kitchen design ideas and innovations that better serve homeowners are popping up like apps in an iTunes store.
It’s Worth Your Money – According to the National Association of Realtors, a kitchen remodel has the biggest return on investment when it comes to selling your home—even more than a two-story addition!
A Lower Energy Bill—It comes with an upfront cost, but Earth-friendly products and appliances are the way of the future. Adding a skylight, for example, brings in ample sunshine, reducing the need for artificial light. Energy-efficient appliances and solar water heaters cut down the utility bill and place less stress on the environment.
Current Appliance Advancements – Appliance manufacturers are spending lots of money to discover technologies that make cooking easier and healthier. Miele and Sub-Zero &Wolf, for example, sell a steam oven that, in addition to veggies and fish, prepares entire meals like meats, poultry, cakes and breads—all simultaneously. The increasingly popular induction cooktop speeds up cooking and makes it safer for kids and pets too.
Financial Incentives- You’re likely to see financial incentives pop up again this year, including sales at home improvement centers, cash rebates for trading in outdated appliances, remodeling grants and low- or no-interest loans.
It’s Fun! Yes, you’re spending money (which isn’t fun), but it’s also a chance for you to express your unique personality and tastes. Kitchen design is more innovative, creative, and robust than ever, and you’ll truly enjoy exploring trends and materials to find the combo that speaks to you most.
The result? A room that is inherently “YOU,” with the added benefits of better function and form.

A smart solution for a ORGANIZED Kitchen!

10 Jan

Was one of your new year’s resolutions to get more organized? Are you having trouble sticking to it??

When a utility drawer becomes a cluttered repository of duplicate tools and useless gadgets, it can boost your blood pressure just to open it.

No matter how much kitchen space you have, it always seems like you need more. If you’re in need of kitchen design ideas that will help free up some space and keep you organized then check out the following four tips:

1. Brew Some Coffee: This is a perfect task for Saturday morning, before the rest of the household is up.

2. Dump Everything Out: Spread the contents of the drawer on a countertop or table. Discard any junk. Scrub out the drawer, and let it air-dry.

3. Sort and Cull Tools: Set aside duplicates, keeping the rest. Cull stocking-stuffer gadgets you simply never use.

New Year’s Resolutions for the heart of your home

3 Jan

New Year's Resolutions

It’s that time of year again, New Year resolution time.
Is the kitchen’s lack of organization savaging your schedule? Is its cooking equipment not geared toward healthy eating? There are numerous ways that your space impacts your goals. Here are some ideas designed to help you keep the resolutions you’ve made by making some changes to your kitchen.

Kitchen Resolution No. 1: Cut my electric bill
One great way to do that in your kitchen is to replace your incandescent lights with compact fluorescent bulbs or LED fixtures.

Kitchen Resolution No. 2: Eat healthier
One of the best ways to eat healthier is to steam your food. This cooking style reduces the amount of fat you have to use, while keeping your food moist and delicious.

The challenge for many homeowners is to find room for a steam oven. This built-in steam oven by Miele solves the space problem.

Kitchen Resolution No. 3: Relax more
Whether it’s entertaining friends over a glass of wine or just enjoying a special vintage with your special someone at the end of a work day a built-in wine cooler is a welcomed addition to your kitchen design, consider the Subzero 424 Wine Cooler.

Kitchen Resolution No. 4: Spend more time with family
If your children are still young, specialized furniture like this Learning Tower can help you get closer by bringing your child safely and comfortably to counter height, you can pass along family traditions and your love for cooking or baking with ease.

Kitchen Resolution No. 5: Get organized
Interior cabinet accessories are great tools for helping you get your kitchen organized. Begin by determining which items you use every week and move the others out of the kitchen. The ones you use will be easier to find when you have them neatly stored in handy organizers, like this custom designed insert by Rosario Cabinets, Inc.

Kitchen Resolution No. 6: Invest in appliances that save money in the long run
Investing in a built-in refrigerator like the Subzero 650G might seem counterintuitive to saving money, but a food preservation system that keeps your meats, dairy and produce fresher longer can help you avoid the massive waste that so many people experience every year. In long run, the amount you save on groceries can easily offset the appliance investment, and keep your conscience clear.

Kitchen Resolution No. 7: Wake up earlier
For those of you who rely on coffee to get going in the morning, this built-in coffee system by Miele is a great kitchen appliance to consider. No, it won’t drag you out of bed, but it can make those early starts easier.

Kitchen Resolution No. 8: Get back to the gym
Exercising works your muscles, but requires protein to rebuild them. To cook your non-vegetarian proteins like poultry, fish, beef, pork and lamb in a healthy way, grill them. This built-in grill by GE Monogram is one of the many fine grills available on the market today.

Kitchen Resolution No. 9: Manage time better
One way to achieve that goal is to speed up your chores. A microwave with speed cook technology can help in this regard, like the GE Monogram Advantium with Speed Cook.

A microwave with a keep-warm setting can help your time management on those occasions when you are running late. A hot meal can still be yours that evening, letting you finish your task more efficiently and enjoy your dinner without the stress of returning to work afterward.

Kitchen Resolution No. 10: Save water
Choose appliances and fixtures that save water like the Bosch 800 Series Dishwasher. Look for the EPA’s newest designation, WaterSense. Sensor faucets are also a good green option to consider for your kitchen.

Kitchen Resolution No. 11: Take better care of my body
Anyone who loves spending hours in their kitchen baking or cooking knows that hard floors can take their toll on your hips, back, feet and legs. Be kind to them by placing a cushioned mat by Wellness Mats in front of your cooktop or range. Your joint’s will thank you right along with the folks who enjoy your tasty treats.
