We are “FIRED UP” for these new ultra-modern Vent Hoods!

4 Apr

Generally speaking, there’s nothing exciting about vent hoods. Today’s roundup, though, might change that just a smidge. Led by a brand named Elica, of which four vent hood designs made it into today’s series, there’s an aesthetic movement happening among kitchen appliance designers. The bulky, overwhelming monstrosities of yesteryear are being replaced by sleek discs, curved sculptural plates and even glimmering chandeliers all serving the same purpose: to eliminate excess heat and steam from a kitchen during meal preparation. Style and functionality most definitely go hand-in-hand where these new culinary helpers are concerned.

“KITCHEN” Design talk

30 Jan

DESIGN TALK-

Rosario advises on tips and tricks of the trade and where it’s wise to spend when it comes to Kitchen Design in 2013.

1

What’s trending in the kitchen right now?

Kitchen design is looking very exciting for 2013 as several design philosophies are converging and mixing, resulting in kitchens that are highly personal. With the economy still trudging along without a spring in its step, homeowners want to buy smart for longevity which translates to neutral finishes for big ticket items such as cabinetry, countertops and flooring. Clean modern styles with warm touches continue their popularity. There is still big interest in open floor plans and the social kitchen & built-in can concealed appliances are popular and there is a growing interest in design sustainability and healthy cooking, which factors into the consumer’s purchasing decisions more than they ever have in the past.

What are people looking for when they renovate their kitchens?

People have different reasons for wanting to renovate their kitchens, but that for the most part people are looking for a “FUNCTIONAL” kitchen as the motivating factor. Home cooks are looking for appliances that have convenient features, and cabinet access and storage should also be convenient. The kitchen needs to perform as effortlessly as possible with mutable cooks, entertaining, extended cooking sessions & social cooking. Homeowners seek to express themselves in a personal way in terms of aesthetics and function.

5

If there’s one thing we should splurge on when we remodel our kitchens what should it be?

Cabinetry has been and will continue to be the one area to splurge on. Cabinetry gets used constantly as do appliances, but since cabinetry is made of wood products as opposed to metals and glass that appliances are made of, it is critical that cabinetry be able to perform consistently over time and resist wear for at least 20 years.  Investing in high end cabinetry is a smart investment as you get what you pay for and skimping on low end cabinetry can be a gamble.

4

What kitchen appliance is worth the splurge?

The answer is indeed a subjective one. Opt for a major cooking appliance such as an oven and cooktop, or a range, depending on which one best fit the overall kitchen plan. The flexibility of a cooktop’s burners to simmer or power boost, built in timers, auto-cook features, convection in ovens, easy pull out racks and precise temperature control are a cook’s dream. Technology has modernized cooking appliances that we see today. Clever features, such as cooktops with no burners at all are being offered being offered by both Thermador and Gaggenau brands. Imagine being able to place a pot wherever you want on your cooktop!

Are there any popular kitchen cabinet colors trending right now?

We are seeing and working with lots of white, off whites and neutral wood tones.  They continue to be what homeowners want in cabinetry.

6

Are there any industry secrets you’re willing to share?

Yes, the importance of designing the kitchen area with equal or near equal emphasis on form and function.  This means that form does not have to follow function – function can follow form!

On a final note, find “YOUR” perfect professional, one you can trust with your home, who will listen to you but not ‘yes’ you, guide but not push and you’ll be on the road to a fabulous renovation.

We hope this leaves you well informed and ready to tackle your kitchen renovation!

SMALL footprint….. BIG solution!

Kitchen located in Boston, Ma created by Rosario Cabinets, Inc.

Although 2012 trends are to larger kitchens, some homes simply don’t have the space for a large kitchen. City apartments can have a space as small as 7 feet by 10 feet, condos often have a galley kitchen or a wall with kitchen cabinets, while in some suburbs, a 10 by 13 foot space is small for a kitchen. Whatever your space limitations, make the most of the kitchen you do have with these ideas for utilizing every inch.

Make it Tall

Use all of the space in your small kitchen, floor to ceiling by incorporating extra-tall cabinets. Think tall and skinny when it comes to appliances as well. In a truly tiny apartment-style kitchen, consider a tall and narrow refrigerator, a built-in convection/microwave oven, stovetop with only two burners, and a dishwasher drawer, if you have the space. Think small for the sink as well. A single bowl, deep sink can hold a large pot to fill. Paired with a pull-out faucet, the sink can be versatile.

 Add an Island

If you have a small kitchen with a little more space, consider an island. Even a small island can make a kitchen more workable by providing an eating area and storage. An Island does not have to take up a lot of space, consider a round island with a small footprint.

 Organize

Make use of every bit of space in your small kitchen. For example, look at hanging rail systems for an attractive display that saves space. Also consider pullout shelves and organizers in cabinets and drawers. Utilizing every bit of space in a cabinet makes a small kitchen more functional. Consider extra-deep countertops to give you more workspace without significantly affecting traffic flow.

Lighten it Up

White cabinets will give an illusion of more space; try to match the cabinet color to the wall color for continuity. Use light wisely in a small kitchen to make the space brighter and to give the illusion of size. Consider under-cabinet halogen or LED lights to provide extra lighting to countertops.
